This project by Delphine Reist and Laurent Faulon (born in 1970 and 1969, live in Geneva) for La BF15 and
the Center of Visual arts of Saint-Fons (CAP) takes its title, Les produits fatals, from industry-specific terminology. This double exhibition shows by-products appearing “fatally” appearing in the manufacturing of products by reconstructing a production line in a contaminated movement.
The two art spaces are connected like two ends of a factory line: on one side, the former commercial location in the city centre now occupied by La BF15, and on the other side, the production context of the CAP Saint-Fons, located in the outskirts of the Lyon Chemical Valley, an area where raw materials are experimented on and developed to create the products that are sold in the city centre.
In a way that is both singular and collective, the works of the two artists, under the same title and in two different locations, contaminate each other, as well as the context of two contemporary art spaces, each other’s “fatal product”.
“We hope to radicalise this balancing exercise by proposing two unbalanced exhibitions: one underpinned by a requirement for experimentation, the other reaching towards the expectations and practices of an environment. Both proposals seek to complement and contradict each other; they reveal logic, but also the illusions and contradictions that support them.” Delphine Reist / Laurent Faulon
Between matter and object, centre and periphery, manufacturing and exhibition, this project heralds both pleasant dialogues and serious reflections on artistic production.
