Gianfranco Botto and Roberta Bruno’s representation of the outskirts of the city, motivated by a cinematographic vision, go beyond stereotypical imagery in creating a dramatic and dreamlike universe. With SUBURB’S TIME, the perception of time is evoked in its specific extended form, and is given more importance than space. Haunted by the songs of REM, romanticism and nostalgia inhabit the overtly pictorial treatment of the images. These large photomontages were produced using images taken in the suburbs of Lyon and installed to resemble the sequences of a “storyboard.”
